VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) — MPO Kelvin Bailey suffered a heart attack while he was on duty, and passed away on Nov. 14.

Police said they received the emergency call just before midnight, and he died at the hospital around 1 a.m.

Bailey was working an off-shift job but was in uniform and working as a P.O., so it is considered an in-the-line-of-duty death. With 26 years and more as a police officer Bailey was known by many, but he was more than an officer.

Bailey also played the role of a father and husband each day.

Bailey met his wife Lorraine when they were in high school, instead of running on the track he chased her during a meet.

“That’s where we met on the field that day. He was like 'can I kiss you,' and I was like 'okay,' and I tell my kids we’ve been kissing ever since,” said Lorraine.

The high school sweethearts moved to Virginia Beach and started a family. They had a boy Kelmari, and a girl, Kayla.

“He was the proudest poppa ever when they put that little boy in his arms,” said Lorraine. She remembers parenting with the love of her life, including moments like taking their daughter to college.

"I was very proud of him and to see him in his uniform. I loved saying I’m Officer Bailey’s wife,” said Lorraine.

Even though Bailey isn’t here, the love is still strong, and she wants to thank everyone for their support during this time.
