VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Virginia Beach early Saturday morning.
Around 12 a.m. Saturday, emergency communications received a call for service in the 4700 block of Shore Drive for someone who had been hit by a car. Police arrived to find a male pedestrian who had been injured, police say.
Officers notified the Fatal Accident Crash Team, due to the injuries sustained by the victim.
According to police, a preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2005 Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on Shore Drive when a pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck by the vehicle as it entered the intersection.
Medics pronounced the man dead on the scene.
Police have identified the victim as 31-year-old Jacob Bollard.
At this time, authorities say no charges are anticipated for the driver of the vehicle.
The accident remains under investigation.
