Police identify man killed in Virginia Beach shooting

Police identified the man killed in the shooting as 27-year-old Damen Ellington Graham of Virginia Beach.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach police identified the man killed in an early morning shooting Tuesday.

The victim is 27-year-old Damen Ellington Graham, of Virginia Beach, police said.

Detectives were called to the Chartwell Apartments in the 6700 block of Chartwell Drive at 12:16 a.m. Tuesday. That's where officers found Graham shot to death.

Alana Aldridge, who lives in the complex, said she came out on her front porch at 5:00 a.m. and saw rescue vehicles packing the parking lot.

“There was a fire truck, two police cars a news truck, and a cop car. There was just a whole lot of people trying to figure out what was going on,” said Aldridge.

Neighbors said that they heard four gunshots in the early hours at the Chartwell Apartments complex.

“To see something like this happen, it’s really disheartening. It could have been four shots in any direction. I mean that could have been anyone’s house, anyone’s child’s bedroom, anyone’s living room,” said Aldridge.

Officers were out investigating the scene all day Tuesday, but no arrest was made, and that’s why Aldridge said she’s playing it safe.

“I just feel like it’s something that happened between two people that escalated to a point that could have involved others. It scares me a little bit. It makes me want to go inside a little bit earlier,” said Aldridge.

Police say "very limited information" is available and they ask anyone with information to call the Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
