Police identify victim of Virginia Beach home invasion, homicide

24-year-old Hunter Scott Goode was killed feet away from the front door of his Elizabeth Court condo.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Police have identified the victim of a homicide in Virginia Beach.

Hunter Scott Goode, 25, was shot to death just feet away from the front door of his condominium during what police believe was a home invasion. It happened early in the morning on Wednesday at the Pavilion Condominiums on Elizabeth Court.

Goode was in the downstairs area of the condo with another male roommate. His girlfriend, sleeping upstairs.

On Thursday, police were in the area as they worked to investigate the homicide.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by Goode's sister, two armed intruders tried to break into the home. One of them knocked on the front door. As Goode answered it, another man shot through the back window of the home.

That's when Goode ran outside to chase one of the men. Meanwhile, his roommate went upstairs to get a gun.

However, it was too late. One of the suspects turned around and shot him.

One neighbor, David Ellis, was in shock. He and his roommate heard multiple rounds of gunshots.

"I heard one shot and then at first, you’re thinking it's fireworks. It sounded different, so I stood up and it was 'bam, bam, bam, bam.' That’s when I heard the rest of them and obviously, I got down," said Ellis. "It just goes to show it doesn't matter where you live, it can happen to anybody."

On Thursday, Goode's girlfriend and her mom were in tears as they moved things out of the condo. She said Goode locked the front door behind him as he ran after one of the men, something she believes he did to protect her and his roommate inside.

Her mother, choking up, said if he hadn't done that, her daughter might not be here today.

"He saved my little girl."

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs.
