'Portraits from a Place of Grace' exhibit celebrates Virginia Beach's historic black neighborhoods

The exhibit features artist Richard Hollant’s photos of prominent residents of Virginia Beach's African American historic neighborhoods and video interviews.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art hosted a community celebration Saturday morning honoring the people who make up the “Portraits from a Place of Grace” exhibit.

It features artist Richard Hollant’s photos of prominent residents of Virginia Beach's African American historic neighborhoods and video interviews.

13NewsNow Anchor Nicole Livas took these pictures at the event where her mother Becky Livas spoke about her childhood neighborhood L and J Gardens.

The exhibit will be on the display at the future home of the African American Cultural Center in Lake Edward off of Newtown Road.
