VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach's city council is expected to discuss potential plans for an Oceanfront festival proposed by Grammy-award winner and Virginia Beach native Pharrell Williams.
"Something in the Water" hopes to become the East Coast version of SXSW. On Tuesday, the city manager's office is expected to update city council on tentative plans for most everything, from programming and transportation to a potential talent lineup.
Festival passes could go on sale as soon as Friday, with the festival tentatively scheduled for April 26 through the 28. That's when College Beach Weekend, an event that typically generated a lot of criticism in the past, typically happens.
But the presentation shows there's a preliminary plan in place that includes crowd control and lifeguarding, as well as private security and a strict gun search policy.
Something in the Water is described as family-friendly with concerts, panel discussions, sports activities, food, and even virtual reality. Williams has previously said he wants young people to feel inspired to possibly find a job out of college, or start a company.
