This 'luxury bus' is the latest way you could travel from Virginia Beach to D.C.

The Rapid Overland Xpress, or The ROX, will roll out in May. It will drive twice a day from Virginia Beach to Washington D.C.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A new bus, Rapid Overland Xpress, will roll out starting in May, driving twice a day from Town Center in Virginia Beach to Washington D.C.

Jeffrey McWaters founded The Rox.

“The ability to just free parking from Town Center and ending up at the metro station in Pentagon City is really going to be important for business,” said McWaters.

He said a $110,000 grant from Virginia Beach Development Authority helped expand his business to Virginia Beach.

The grant was based on the company’s capital investment of $3,275,000 and job creation.

McWaters said the company will have its offices and vehicle storage in a 5,600-square-foot facility at 1140 Loretta Lane.

The company plans to add 50 new jobs with average salaries of around $50,000, exclusive of benefits.

“I do think it’s job creation. It’s connecting a lot of the brain power between these two cities. These two big economic centers for Virginia,” said McWater.

Dorthy Wood is the chair of the Virginia Beach Economic Development Authority.

She said she agrees, “well we’re excited to have any business to come to Virginia Beach, which is growing rapidly.”

The luxurious bus will offer 22 seats with lots of leg room. Amenities include an on-board concierge, free luggage space, free wi-fi, and on-board meals.

McWater said there is “a business partnership with Taste Unlimited on meals."

"It’s going to be a really neat experience for people, very relaxing and very efficient,” he said.

McWater said they still haven't figured out the cost, but it will be posted online.
