VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A Virginia Beach woman will spend the next five years behind bars for hitting two bicyclists with her car while driving intoxicated.
Andrea DeJesus was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison with 5 years suspended, 5 years good behavior, indeterminate supervised probation, and indefinite license suspension. The sentence was the maximum allowed under DeJesus' plea agreement, which called for a cap of five years.
Back on Mother's Day 2017, police said an officer tried to pull over DeJesus for going 10 miles over the speed limit when he noticed her car was dragging a bicycle and someone was laying in the road.
According to the arresting officer, DeJesus was slurring her words and stumbling. Police say her Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) was .26, more than three times the legal limit.
The two bicyclists suffered from serious injuries.
