Norfolk deputies deliver free turkeys to families

The Norfolk Sheriff's Office teamed up with Port Alliance Credit Union to hand out 100 turkeys and side dishes to families who could use a little help this Thanksgiving.

The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office teamed up with Port Alliance Credit Union for an annual tradition.

Their goal on Thursday was to hand out 100 turkeys and side dishes to families who could use a little help this Thanksgiving.

“It’s about showing our organization cares,” said Lt. Meryah Breeden with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office.

Breeden joined Sgt. Juan Serrano for two stops Thursday morning. They delivered a turkey to Sojnia Mays-Powell of Norfolk.

“I think it’s beautiful,” said Mays-Powell.

The rain didn’t put a damper on the plans either.

“Rain, sleet, sunshine,” said Serrano. “It doesn’t matter, we are delivering meals to them.”

They not only gave Thanksgiving dinners to families but time.

“We’re not just about putting people behind bars,” said Breeden. “We’re about reaching out in the community and giving back.”
