WASHINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Deputies in North Carolina have charged three people with felony animal cruelty after more than 30 dogs were seized and eight others were found dead during a raid.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Thursday deputies found several emaciated dogs with no access to food or water. The news release also said deputies found skeletal remains of five dogs, one dead dog and two dead puppies.

Deputies also said they discovered eight different sites on the Pinetown property where the animals were kept in pens. Of the 32 dogs that were seized, one of them was euthanized immediately.

Two of the three people arrested Wednesday were jailed on $100,000 bonds each. A third person is jailed on a $15,000. It's not known if they have attorneys.
