Region's last Kmart store to close

The Kmart located in Kill Devil Hills will close for good in April.

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — The last Kmart in Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina is closing.

The store is located in Kill Devil Hills, on North Carolina's Outer Banks.

TransformCo, which owns the Kmart store chain, told 13News Now that the liquidation sale will begin this week.

A spokesperson gave us this statement:

"After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Kmart store in Kill Devil Hills, N.C.  The liquidation sale will begin later this week and the store is planned to close in mid-April. We encourage customers to continue shopping on Kmart.com for all their product needs."

Kmarts have been shutting their doors since its parent company, Sears filed for bankruptcy in October 2018. The last remaining Kmarts in Hampton Roads -- in Chesapeake and in Tabb -- closed late last year.
