WAKEFIELD, Va., (WVEC) -- Swimmers heading to local beaches Wednesday should take extra precaution due to risk for rip currents.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield said there is a moderate risk for rip currents over all area beaches.

If you ever find yourself in a rip current, don't panic and don't fight the current. Try to swim parallel and out of it. If you can't seem to escape, try to float and tread the water.

For your safety swim near a lifeguard.
