BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WVEC) -- Sheriff John Holley said a man died and another man was hurt seriously in a shooting in Windsor Saturday morning.

The shooting happened in the 300 block of Morning Road shortly before 1 a.m.

Holley told 13News Now the men were related. The man who died was spending the night at the other man's home.

A medical team flew the surviving man to Vidant Medical Center for treatment.

The shooting came two days after the murder of Shequan Taylor in Kelford. Holley said the cases are not connected.

Deputies still are investigating the murder of 26-year-old Kelvin Singleton.

Singleton escaped from the Chowan County Detention Center Easter Sunday. Someone found his body decapitated in Bertie County April 8.
