Rain won't stop local events this weekend, thunder might

The clouds have rolled in, the rain has started falling, and it's supposed to be wet all weekend in Hampton Roads.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- The clouds have rolled in, the rain has started falling, and it's supposed to be wet all weekend in Hampton Roads.

A lot of events are set to take place throughout the region, and organizers said rain won't stop any of them.

"We're rain or shine," said Chesapeake Jubilee Executive Director Stephanie Welke. "Most of the rides can operate in the rain. Everything will close down if there're thunderstorms, which we have not had on site at all yet, hopefully not throughout the weekend."

Organizers for the Beerfest in Downtown Norfolk said if it starts pouring, beer will still be served.

In Virginia Beach, The Warbirds Over the Beach World War II Air Show is still expected to take flight.

Pilot John Mazza said when it rains, pilots wait for it to stop to resume flying.

"It rains every year we have this air show," said Mazza. "If you want to know if it's going to rain in Virginia Beach, look for this show."

Even if the rain starts coming down, this weekend will definitely not be a washout.
