VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A Virginia State Police Trooper was injured after his marked car collided with a construction vehicle on Thursday morning.

Police said the accident happened just after 7:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.

The construction vehicle changed lanes, moving into the trooper's lane without leaving enough room for the officer to brake. The trooper rear-ended the construction vehicle as a result.

The officer had minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

State Police say the driver of the construction vehicle, 23-year-old Kyle Mapstone of Virginia Beach, was charged with failure to yield right of way.
