PARKSLEY, Va. (Delmarva Now) — A longtime Accomack official died suddenly, officials said.

Leslie Savage of Parksley, who served as Commissioner of Revenue for Accomack County since 2007, died Thursday, July 26.

"Accomack County lost a longtime member of its work family yesterday," said Mike Mason, Accomack County administrator. "The unexpected loss of Commissioner of Revenue Leslie Savage came as a surprise to all of us."

Mason said Savage had provided more than 40 years of service to the county and its residents, including the last 10 years as Commissioner of Revenue after being elected to that office in 2007.

"She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her," said Mason.

A special meeting of the Accomack County Board of Supervisors has been called for Thursday, Aug. 2, at 5 p.m. to consider requesting the Circuit Court issue a Writ of Special Election for the constitutional office of the Commissioner of Revenue.

To ensure the election to this office will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot, the request must be submitted by the end of the week.

The Commissioner of the Revenue is the chief tax-assessing official of the locality.

The election will be to fulfill the final year Savage's current term, which ends in November 2019.

"My prayers go out to her family, as well as members of her staff and other employees who have worked alongside her for many a year," said Mason.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Williams-Parksley Funeral Home.
