WACHAPREAGUE, Va. (WVEC) -- Six passengers were brought safely to shore after their fishing boat ran aground in the mud Thursday night in Wachapreague.
The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted shortly after 6 p.m., that the 34-foot fishing boat "Wreckaholic" had run aground due to shoaling and a low tide in a channel just north of Bradford Bay.
The Coast Guard launched a shallow water boat to assist the fishermen, who were less than a mile away from the Coast Guard station. Six passengers were taken off the boat, while the captain and first mate remained on board and were able to get the boat freed when high tide came in a few hours later.
They were able to guide the boat and safely tie it up at Island House Restaurant and Marina in Wachapreague.
No injuries and no pollution were reported.
