ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash on the Eastern Shore that left one person dead.

The wreck happened around 10:22 p.m. Thursday. State troopers were called to investigate the accident on Route 13 at 4088 Lankford Road. This is near Davis Road in the New Church area of Accomack County.

Ethan Hart, of Saxis, Virginia, was driving a GMC pickup truck westbound on Davis Road toward Route 13, when he failed to obey a stop sign at the intersection.

Hart drove through the stop sign and struck a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer that was traveling northbound on Route 13, Sgt. Michelle Anaya said.

After the collision, the pickup truck was pushed onto its side and a front seat passenger was thrown from the truck.

The passenger, John B. Shertenlieb III, died at the scene.

Hart, and the driver of the tractor-trailer, Thomas Pusey, were taken to the hospital.

At this time it is not clear if alcohol was a contributing factor, Anaya said.

The accident remains under investigation.

Shertenlieb was 20 years old and lived in Sanford, Virginia. His family has been notified.
