FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - Police say a northern Virginia woman has been charged with child abuse after she injected her hospitalized son with an unknown substance.

Fairfax County Police on Tuesday announced that 28-year-old Elizabeth Malone of Fort Belvoir has been charged with child abuse and larceny.

According to police, Malone stole supplies from Inova Children's Hospital April 25 and injected an unknown substance into the boy.

According to a search warrant obtained by news outlets, the boy had been hospitalized multiple times since February. Hospital staff became suspicious, and a camera was placed in the room.

Malone is being held without bond.
