Williamsburg neighborhood on high alert after 'peeping tom' caught

Williamsburg police are on the lookout for a man caught peeping in someone’s window a few miles from the campus of William & Mary.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Neighbors in one Williamsburg apartment complex are uneasy after a woman caught a man peeking in her bedroom window Sunday night.

Izzy Muller is the woman's roommate, and a William & Mary student. She found out what happened when she came home from class Monday.

“She told me the man was bent over so he could see into her room, and she was on her bed,” Muller said. “It made my roommate uneasy quite a bit.”

Muller's roommate screamed when she saw the man, and that's when he ran away. Police immediately went searching for him, but there were unable to find him.

“I felt uncomfortable, I let my mom know, she bought me mase,” Muller said.

This disturbing incident now has neighbors taking extra precautions. Colonial Pines management left notices for neighbors, warning them of the peeping tom.

“We have to now keep a watchful eye on the place and report suspicious activities,” one neighbor said. “It wouldn't be a good feeling, I'd feel violated.”

Neighbors said it's disturbing. One woman at the next complex over fears this man may strike again.

"It would be very scary, I am a single mom with a four-year-old son," Jennifer Buchanan said. "I would have nightmares.

Right now, everyone's eyes are wide open, including Muller and her roommate's.

“We talked about keeping the doors locked, be on the lookout,” Muller said. “I walk my dog at night, so it is unsettling, I hope they find him.”

Police described the individual as a black male, approximately 25-30 years of age.
