Woman dies after car crashes into home in Accomack County

A woman ran off the roadway on Route 13 and into a home. She wasn't wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.

PAINTER, Va. — On Monday around 2:42 p.m., the Virginia State Police investigated a single car crash that ended with someone dead.

The accident occurred in the northbound lanes on Route 13 in Painter in Accomack County.

Peggy Kellam, 53, was driving a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis heading northbound on Route 13 when she ran off the roadway, crossed the grassy median into the southbound lanes, continued off the roadway and hit a house. Nobody was home at the time of the crash.

The 53-year-old was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident. Alcohol was not a contributing factor of the accident.
