VIRGINIA BEACH, Va (WVEC) - Police are investigating after a man was found dead inside a car, Thursday night.

Officials were called to the 700 block of Hampshire Lane around 7 p.m. Thursday. Police say the body found was a man, but they are waiting for autopsy reports to show the cause of his death.

Neighbors say they came home Thursday to see over 15 police cars lining the street.

"I actually saw them pulling body out of the car. The body was like laying down on the passenger floor all bruised up. It looked like it had been there for a while," said neighbor Kevin Greer

Greer says the car was green and he saw it sitting in the parking lot of Baker Crossing Apartments. He never thought to look inside.

Greer explained, "The car has been there for two or three weeks so I'm not sure how long it's been there, but it's surprising that no one really noticed that."

He says the neighborhood didn't always feel the safest over the past several years, but says it was getting better.

"Recently there has been a lot of military people moving in and it's been safe and we haven't had a lot of police around here."

Police are still investigating this incident. If you know anything, contact Virginia Police Department or contact the crime line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
