People around Hampton Roads are honoring members of the military who made the ultimate sacrifice.

HAMPTON, Va. — People around Hampton Roads are honoring members of the military who made the ultimate sacrifice.

In Hampton, the National Cemetery will hold a Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. Congresswoman Elaine Luria is expected to be there. 

There will also be a flag retirement ceremony at Colonies RV and Travel Park at Fort Monroe at 11:30 a.m. You can turn in any worn, torn and faded flags for retirement.

In Virginia Beach, there will be a Memorial Day ceremony at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial, right across from the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

The Virginia Beach Police Department's Honor Guard Unit-Rifle Team will provide a 21-gun salute followed by music performed by the  United States Air Force Heritage Brass Band.

In Suffolk, a Memorial Day ceremony will be held at the State Veterans Cemetery

An Avenue of Flags will be placed at the cemetery entrance and all burial sites will be graced with an American flag. There will be special musical tributes to the fallen, the playing of Taps, a rifle salute, and the placing of memorial wreaths to honor those who gave their lives in service to the nation.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the cemetery located on 5310 Milners Road. The keynote speaker will be Colonel Dale E. Hruby, USA (Ret.) and the event is co-hosted by American Legion, Post 88.

In Newport News, an annual ceremony for Memorial Day will be held at the Virginia War Museum. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and is located at the Victory Arch, on 25th Street and West Avenue. After the ceremony, the public can explore the museum and learn more about America's rich military history. On Memorial Day, visitors are treated to $1 off admission. Click here to learn more.

In Portsmouth, the city is holding its annual Memorial Day Parade.

A Portsmouth tradition since 1884, the 135th annual Memorial Day Parade salutes the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and celebrates Portsmouth's proud military heritage.

Enjoy floats, marching bands and lots of excitement. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Monday and travels on High Street from Peninsula Avenue (at I.C. Norcom High School) to Crawford Street.
