NORFOLK, Va. — Sailors from the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier will be participating in multiple community service projects in Hampton Roads on June 13.

The event is to commemorate the 41st President of the United States.

In one of the largest single-day community relations events coordinated by a Norfolk-based aircraft carrier, approximately 1,300 Sailors will be spread out across Hampton Roads spanning 56 separate projects.

The projects include maintenance at local parks and beaches, assisting with the inventory at donation centers, stocking shelves at food banks, and participating in events with elderly veterans and children at area youth groups.

“The 41st President’s selfless service to the nation is a true inspiration and something we seek to emulate on our ship,” said Capt. Sean Bailey, commanding officer, USS George H. W. Bush. “Sailors assigned to the USS George H. W. Bush are volunteering in the Hampton Roads area to honor our namesake and give back to the community we call home.”
