Newport News Police Officers, K-9s host Cops and Kids event

For its 30th year, Santa got a special visit by a few kids and Newport News Police K-9s.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) — Santa got a special visit by a few kids and Newport News Police K-9s.

On Saturday, K-9 officers Taz and Tank stopped by the Newport News FOP Lodge #25 Cops and Kids event at the Walmart on Jefferson Avenue.

The event allowed Officers, Deputies, Troopers and other law enforcement members to shop with kids for Christmas gifts and meet Saint Nick!

Twenty-five kids from the community were given $150 to pick out whatever they wanted for Christmas. After the shopping trip, the presents are wrapped and sent home with them to open on Christmas morning.

The event has been going on for over 30 years.

K-9 Tank is certificated in narcotics detection, and K-9 Taz is specialized in patrol and bomb detection.
