Peninsula health officials looking for pit bull that bit person

The dog is a female, gray American Pit Bull Terrier, health officials said.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Peninsula Health District is looking for a dog that bit a person on Tuesday.

The dog is a female, gray American Pit Bull Terrier, health officials said.

The person was bitten at the intersection of Colony Road and Windermere in Newport News.

Health officials said if the dog is not found, the victim must receive rabies shots.

If the dog is found it will not be removed from its owner but placed on an in-home confinement period of 10 days.

Anyone who has seen the dog in the area is asked to contact the Peninsula Health District – Newport News Environmental Health office at 757-594-7340. After hours, contact the animal control office at 757-595-7387.

Virginia state law requires that dogs and cats be vaccinated between 3 and 4 months of age and thereafter to maintain protection against rabies.
