RODANTHE, N.C. — Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative is alerting residents on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands that they can expect brief power outages this week.

The outages are needed for the power company to make the final switch to the new Bonner Bridge transmission cables.

The islands will be served by limited diesel generators on Wednesday, February 27 and Thursday, February 28.  The power company asks residents to "make reasonable efforts to conserve electric use" on those days.

Residents in Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, and Avon can expect a 30-minute power outage on February 27 at 8 a.m., and a five-minute outage on February 28 at 2 p.m.

Additional outages are planned over the next several weeks as well, dependent on weather.  No additional dates have been announced at this time.

The power company asks that if your power does not return following Wednesday and Thursday's planned work, to call 866-511-9862.
