POQUOSON, Va. (WVEC) — The Poquoson Police Department found and arrested a Newport News man who hit a pedestrian with his silver SUV and ran.
On December 9, officers responded to the 200 block of Wythe Creek Road for an auto-pedestrian accident. On the scene, police found a 61-year-old Newport News man with a visible head injury.
The victim was transported by medics to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. The suspect left the scene.
Detectives began an intense investigation to identify the suspect vehicle and driver. After a video and information were posted on social media, the public was able to help the police and identify the suspect, 33-year-old Adonte Devon Patterson.
Warrants were out for Patterson's arrest. He was charged with a felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident involving an Injury, and a misdemeanor charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle after the Accused’s Driver’s License has been Suspended or Revoked.
On Wednesday, Patterson was arrested and taken into custody.
