Virginia election officials clear up mailer confusion

The Department of Elections said many of these letters are inaccurate, because the nonprofit uses outdated public databases when creating their mailing list.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- The Virginia Department of Elections is trying to clear up confusion about voter registration status.

A nonprofit called Voter Participation Center mailed 140,000 registration forms in Virginia telling recipients they "did not appear to be currently registered to vote"

The Department of Elections said many of these letters are inaccurate, because the nonprofit uses outdated public databases when creating their mailing list.

You can check your voter registration status at vote.virginia.gov.
