NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Super Tuesday holds major importance for the Tar Heel state.

While some states, like Virginia, only held a presidential primary election for Democrats, North Carolinians held presidential primaries for three parties as well as primary elections for state and congressional offices.

Since these are the primaries, only the nominees for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general from each party are being voted on. The main gubernatorial election will take place in November.

State citizens also participated in Senate and House primary elections. Below is a list of projected winners from the Associated Press:

Democratic gubernatorial nominee: Roy Cooper

Republican gubernatorial nominee: Dan Forest

Democratic Senate primary winner: Cal Cunningham

Republican Senate primary winner: Thom Tillis

13News Now will update the Super Tuesday results in North Carolina continually on our results page after the polls close. We will also have results of primaries from Virginia.
