Several cars of a train derailed in Suffolk Monday afternoon.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Several cars of a train derailed in Suffolk Monday afternoon.

According to a Suffolk Police spokeswoman, 8 cars and 1 engine of a train derailed around 4:15 p.m. The incident took place in the 300 block of Baron Boulevard at Shoulders Hill Road, near the Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

No evacuations are required in the area. Police said no injuries were reported, and there were no hazmat concerns.

Public Works crews have set up detour signs as traffic is detoured through traffic the Meadows neighborhood. Nansemound Parkway will remain open.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
