Suffolk business evacuated following gas leak

Suffolk Fire and Rescue said the leak was reported around 9:39 a.m. Friday at IES Commercial and Industrial, located on Bowen Parkway, near Nansemond Parkway.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A Suffolk business was evacuated and closed for the day following a leak of a propane gas tank.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue said the leak was reported around 9:39 a.m. Friday at IES Commercial and Industrial, located on Bowen Parkway, near Nansemond Parkway.

A 1,000-gallon propane tank had begun to leak. AmeriGas and a Virginia Department of Emergency Management team were called to the scene to safely off-load the gas from the tank.

No injuries were reported.

The roadway at Bowen Parkway was shut down while crews worked on the leak. It reopened shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Officials say all gas has been offloaded from the affected tank.
