BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — A 10-0 run early in the second half by homestanding Gardner-Webb proved to be too much to overcome in a 81-67 Hampton loss to the Runnin' Bulldogs on Monday night.
This was the conclusion of a January 20 contest that was suspended at halftime due to malfunctioning shot clocks. Hampton (13-16, 8-8) used a Davion Warren jumper to get the margin back to 43-35 at the 18:33 mark before going scoreless over the next 3:33 when a jumper by Eric Jamison, Jr. jumper put the hosts up 53-35.
The Pirates cut the lead to as close as 13 points twice in the second half, the last being just under 11 minutes left on a Ben Stanley jumper to trail 55-42. Stanley was the leading scorer for Hampton with 20 points, while Jermaine Marrow added 17 and eight assists and Warren chipped in with 12 and six rebounds.
