Alvarez's single leads Tides to 3-2 win

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Pedro Alvarez hit a run-scoring single in the seventh inning to give the Norfolk Tides a 3-2 win over the Columbus Clippers on Sunday. Chris Dickerson scored on the play after he reached base on an error and advanced to second on a single by C. Johnson.

Luis Sardinas hit a solo home run in the third inning to give the Tides a 1-0 lead. The Clippers came back to take the lead in the fourth inning when Ronny Rodriguez hit a two-run home run. Norfolk tied the game 2-2 in the fifth when Sharlon Schoop hit a solo home run.

Steve Johnson (1-2) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Kyle Crockett (2-3) took the loss in the International League game. Richard Rodriguez pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for his third save of the season. Despite the loss, Columbus is 5-2 against Norfolk this season.
