CHESAPEAKE, Va. — "He's probably the best teammate I've had since I've been here at Hickory." High praise for our Athlete of the Week, Mason Dunaway, from his coach. Hank Kraft would also go on to say, ""He's just that coach on the field. He's a coach in the dugout and just encourages. He says little things to help them make adjustments. He pretty much does it all for us."
Dunaway has been the starting shortstop for the Hawks for the last 4 years. Next season, he's headed to play for JMU on a baseball scholarship. First, however, Hickory has some unfinished business when it comes to the state playoffs. Dunaway says, "You can't take stuff for granted. If you take stuff for granted it's not going to go very well for you. Last year it didn't go well for us, but we're back here and we're ready to go." As he told us, they have a chip on their shoulder.
