NORFOLK, Va. — Lakeland and Petersburg started off going toe to toe in the Class 3 Region Finals Tuesday night. The Cavaliers started off leading 7-0 only to be leading by just two over the Crimson Wave 15-13. Then in the second quarter, Lakeland opened things up and led 37-19 at the half and never looked back winning 63-48 and capturing the school's first region title.
The Cavaliers had balanced scoring as Raymond Bellamy led the way with 13 points. Clint Wright, Jr. chipped in 12. Lakeland now faces the Region B runnerup in Armstrong in the state quarterfinals on Friday at King's Fork.
