Lady Pirates slip to 2nd in Big South with loss to High Point

Despite 22 points from Ashley Bates, Hampton lost to the Panthers 82-73 snapping their 3 game winning streak.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Preseason Big South Conference Player of the Year Emma Bockrath scored 32 points with 10 rebounds, including 15 in the fourth quarter as High Point defeated Hampton 82-73 in a Big South Conference women's basketball game Saturday.

With the win Hampton and High Point are tied for second at 6-3 in conference trailing Radford who is currently 8-1 after a win on Saturday.  The Panthers are now 11-0 at home this season and go to 14-6 overall while Hampton is 11-9 overall.

Hampton opened the game blistering at Hampton hit a blistering 61.1% from the field in the first quarter as Ashley Bates had 11 of the 24 points for the Lady Pirates.  A 17-4 run to close the second quarter put Hampton in an eight-point hole at halftime.  Five straight 3-balls from Bockrath (2), Skylar Curran (2) and Lindsey Edwards were on consecutive possessions to push the lead.

Bates was high for Hampton with 22 points and five steals, Laren VanArsdale had 19 points and five assists, while Kaylah Lupoe added 14 points and nine boards and LaShayla Wright-Ponder added 10 points and nine boards.
