NORFOLK, Va. — Landstown won a double overtime thriller to get to the Class 6 championship game. Maury beat the defending state champs to get to the finals in Class 5 for the first time since 1979. Princess Anne girls easily moved on to yet another title game in hopes of making it six in a row.
The Eagles were trailing Oscar Smith by 13 points at halftime, but came from behind to win 64-60. It's Landstown's second trip to the championship game in 5 years. They have never won it all.
Maury had the tall task of taking down Varina who had won 46 of their last 47 games. Mission accomplished. The Commodores won 74-61. They got 19 points from Matt Mensia to lead the way.
Princess Anne had little trouble in beating Highland Springs in girls basketball 77-33.
