NORFOLK, Va. — It was 92 years in the making, but if you talked to Maury High School alumni and fans, it was worth the wait. They were celebrating boys basketball coach Brandon Plummer and his coaching staff Saturday night.
They were given plaques as they won three weeks ago in the Class 5 state title game over Freedom High School in Richmond 57-49. It was the school's first championship since 1927. For Plummer, who not only has a state title as a player (Booker T. Washington), but now as a head coach. "It's been a lot of love and support from our community and my family. A lot of love. People have congratulated me. Wherever I go somebody is saying 'Congratulations Coach Plummer, congratulations!' I can only say thank you to everybody who came out and supported us throughout our entire season."
