Virginia Beach cuts the ribbon on new waterfront park

Ferry Point Park is nine acres of wetlands and forests along the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River, just east of I-64 and Providence Road.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — It was a big win for conservation groups in Virginia Beach: the Living River Restoration Trust opened Ferry Point Park on Wednesday.

The waterfront park is nine acres of wetlands and forests along the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River.  This is just east of Interstate 64 and Providence Road.

The land started out as a vacant lot with a dilapidated house. Now it will be a sanctuary for wildlife for years to come.

It took the conservation group three years to make this park happen. They donated the land to Virginia Beach, which will now operate the park.

This is the latest in 600 acres the trust conserves in the area.

Eventually, there will be a kayak access point and walking trails for everyone to enjoy.
