Texans DT D.J. Reader Presents Scholarships At Grimsley High

D.J. Reader played at Grimsley High School and Clemson University before the Houston Texans drafted him in 2016.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A former Grimsley Whirlie was back in his hometown Wednesday to give back to the newest class of graduates.

Houston Texans defensive tackle D.J. Reader presented two David Reader Memorial Scholarships in a ceremony at Grimsley High School.

The scholarships are in memory of Reader's father, David V. Reader Sr., who was an educator and coach. The award goes to student-athletes who show leadership and earn an unweighted 3.0 grade point average in the classroom.

This year, Reader presented the scholarships to Grimsley's Graham Hertweck and Emma Winstead.

"You always want to grow up and do something like this and be able to be in a position to do something like this," Reader said. "I'm blessed to be in that position to have things I can give back and give knowledge back, so being able to give this back is huge for me."

The scholarships are each worth $3,000.
