The Norfolk Pajaritos Take Over Harbor Park

Don't worry, it's the same team...with a dash of culture and diversity

NORFOLK, Va. — Spanish term pajaritos translates to very small bird, not unlike an Oriole, which makes it the perfect moniker for the Norfolk Tides' participation in Copa de la Diversion, or the "Fun Cup".

The Tides, or Pajaritos de la Suerte, join 71 other minor league teams in an endeavor to celebrate Hispanic heritage and connect with diverse communities.

The "de la Suerte" makes the new mascot the "little birds of luck". This alludes to a traditional Hispanic custom in which a trained bird will select a fortune for people curious enough to ask about their future.

Tides hope their future includes a lot of wins this summer, but the Pajaritos know that they've already won in the community, as they embrace the cities' diversity.

The Copa de la Diversion will take place on May 4th, May 31st, June 28th, August 4th and September 1st; with a jersey youth jersey giveaway on May 31st and bobblehead giveaway on June 28th.
