WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The College of William and Mary is not retaining Tony Shaver as head basketball coach. Shaver had been running the show for the last 16 years.
Shaver and the Tribe put together three straight 20 win seasons from 2014-2016. The team also went streak of finishing in the top 4 in the CAA in 6 straight seasons, but this year fell off with a 14-17 record.
Shaver was not able to coach William and Mary to a CAA tournament championship and the school has still never made the NCAA tournament.
Shaver is the school's all-time winningest coach with an overall record of 226-268.
The school says a national search is underway for the next head coach. The cupboard is not bare. William and Mary returns first team all-conference Nathan Knight, sharpshooter Matt Milon and a talented freshman class from this season.
