NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — An intriguing matchup in boys high school basketball happened in the Peninsula District Friday night. Woodside, who was led by Kuron Coleman's 22 points including five 3-pointers as they jumped back in front in the third quarter and held off Menchville 71-64.
The game went back and forth in the first half before the Wolverines took a 33-24 halftime lead. Monarchs guard, Allen Strothers had a dunk and layup in the third period that put Menchville back in front 41-39, but Woodside answered at the other end when Trevor Smith, who added 19 converted on a three pointer to go up 50-46.
Coleman would help seal the deal with a late corner three. The Wolverines finished things off by converting on 21 of 33 free throws for the game.
