CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Part of South Military Highway in Chesapeake is closed after a dump truck with its bed lifted hit an overpass.
The accident happened around 12:30 at the Interstate 464 overpass. 13News Now photojournalist Bonifacio Herrera was driving in his vehicle and witnessed the accident. Herrera said he saw the truck had its bed at least partially lifted into the up position, which then struck the bottom of the overpass. The truck then skidded under the overpass and came to a rest along a guardrail, tipped to one side.
Chesapeake Police added the truck's bed also hit a traffic light on Military Highway right before hitting the overpass.
The driver had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The Virginia Department of Transportation was notified to check the I-464 overpass for damage. Traffic continues moving over it at this time.
