Police seek eyewitness information to car crash caused by shooting on I-664 southbound lanes in Hampton

The shooting caused both vehicles to lose control and strike the walls on both sides of the roadway, according to a release.

HAMPTON, Va. — Virginia State Police shut down the southbound lanes of I-664 at Powhatan Parkway in Hampton for several hours Saturday afternoon. They're now looking for several people who were involved and fled the scene. 

According to a release, at 12:46 p.m. two vehicles crashed into each other after being involved in a shooting. 

When police arrived, they found a 24-year-old man with non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center for treatment. 

Police and detectives with the Criminal Bureau of Investigation were actively on the scene, finally reopening I-664 at around 4:30 p.m.

The initial investigation revealed that a gray 2011 Hyundai Sonata and a dark blue 2011 Dodge Journey SUV were driving when the shooting began. 

The shooting caused both vehicles to lose control and strike the walls on both sides of the roadway, according to a release. 

Several people nearby then report seeing several black men exit the Hyundai Sonata and run from the scene.
