Motorcyclist going over 100 mph on I-64 leads police on pursuit from Hampton to York County

A 19-year-old faces several charges after speeding on I-64 Thursday, trying to outrun Virginia State Police and crashing into another vehicle.

HAMPTON, Va. — A 19-year-old faces several charges after speeding on I-64 Thursday and trying to outrun Virginia State Police in a pursuit that stretched from Hampton to York County.

State police say that around 7 p.m. they tried to stop a 2021 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle that was traveling faster than 100 mph in a 65 mph zone. 

The motorcyclist, Destiny Martinez, would not pull over and sped away from police, in and out of traffic, until crashing into the back of an SUV.

Martinez was thrown from the motorcycle but was not severely injuried, according to police. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Martinez was charged with felony elude, reckless driving by speed, reckless driving general, and operating a motorcycle without an endorsement.
