Portsmouth Boulevard/Nansemond Parkway expansion wraps up

On Thursday, the cities of Suffolk and Chesapeake held a joint ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the widening of Portsmouth Boulevard (Chesapeake) and Nanesmond Parkway (Suffolk) from two to four lanes.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) — After years of construction, the Nansemond Parkway/Portsmouth Boulevard improvement project is finally complete.

On Thursday, the cities of Suffolk and Chesapeake held a joint ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the widening of Portsmouth Boulevard (Chesapeake) and Nanesmond Parkway (Suffolk) from two to four lanes.

The newly widened road stretches from Helen Street in Suffolk to Starmount Parkway in Chesapeake. In addition to the new lanes of traffic, the project also provides turn lanes, signals, street lighting, and a multi-use path.

It wraps up Phase 2 of the Nansemond Parkway expansion and Phase IV of the Portsmouth Boulevard expansion. It took two years and about $10 million to finish.
