The heat and humidity have returned, and they will stick around right through the weekend, as some of the hottest weather we have seen so far this year envelops Hampton Roads.  The heating of the day has helped aid in the development of isolated thunderstorms this evening. These storms will be with us for the next few hours ahead of sunset.  Once we lose the sun, we lose the trigger for these storms and they will die out.

If you catch some of these storms, don't be surprised to pick up a quick inch of rain and some gusty winds.

We will play out this same pattern for the rest of the week and into the weekend as a dome of heat sets up over the eastern third of the country.

High temperatures will be in the middle to upper 90s with heat index values approaching 110°, especially this weekend.

When will this heat break?  The pattern looks to shift to a slightly more seasonable one by the middle of next week. Yes, that is a week of excessive heat to get through before things change. Hang in there and stay cool!
