NORFOLK, Va. — After heavy rain and widespread rain Thursday, drier conditions will settle for the end of the work week into the weekend. Don't let your guard down though. A few showers are possible Friday through Sunday, especially for the Peninsulas.
Let's recap the washout we experienced during the mid-week.
Significant rainfall totals were recorded across Hampton Roads today ranging from 2-4". Rainfall at Norfolk Int'l was enough to push March 2024 up to a tie for the top wettest on record.
Yesterday, March 28th was the wettest March 28th ever in Norfolk with a reported 3.13" of rain. It also placed third on the all-time wettest March days.
With the wind direction now out of the north, this will bring some drier and cooler air around the surface. So, expect a crips morning on Friday with temperatures starting off in the lower 30s to middle 40s.
Friday brings a return of sunshine, breezy conditions, and seasonable temperatures. Wind gusts on Friday will be as high as 25 mph. There is a slight chance of an afternoon isolated shower too as an upper-level disturbance rolls by.
High pressure will build to our south, and winds will change direction by Saturday morning. South winds will bring in warmer air so enjoy much more comfortable temperatures in the lower 70s! We'll continue the mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions for Easter Weekend, but that chance for isolated, light showers remains for both Saturday and Sunday.
Because drier conditions are returning for Friday through Sunday, expect high pollen through Easter. With the potential for more rain during the beginning of next work week, pollen levels will drop slightly on Monday.
Our general unsettled pattern will spill over into April. Rain chances continue Monday and linger through midweek.
